School Bans Students from Bringing Birthday Gifts to Class
Rosemount, MN (WQOW) - Some elementary students in Minnesota will be having much quieter birthdays at school next year.
The Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District is banning students from bringing food or gifts to class to celebrate their big day.
School officials say the ban was put into place mostly out of concern for childhood obesity problems and allergy issues. But non-food items like stickers and pencils are also forbidden under the new policy. School leaders say that's out of concern for the feelings of children whose parents can't afford to buy treats for the whole class.
