Eau Claire (WQOW) -- A local library breaks ground on a major renovation project.
This week, the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire began its $1.5 million renovation. While it hasn't made any adjustments to the actual library, crews have started to build around the basement parking lot. That will create a space for the youth services center as they renovate the area where the new center will go.
"The library is about everybody. It's for the whole community, but we're a lot about kids and so we're going to see a big improvement for them," says John Stoneberg, director of the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library. "This library building is 32 years old, so we're getting a little worn, so it'll be nice to update it a little bit."
The basement parking lot is closed for now so the library is offering free parking in the lot off of S. Dewey St. If all goes well, the project should be complete in December.
