DRAYTON, N.D. (AP) - Pembina County officials say the Red River bridge east of Drayton, which had been closed since early April due to flooding, has reopened.
The bridge is on North Dakota Highway 66, which becomes Minnesota Highway 11 on the east side of the river leading to Donaldson and Karlstad, Minn.
The Drayton Bridge is expected to be replaced by late next year. Construction crews started work in February on a new 4,000-foot long bridge.
The old bridge has closed four times in the past 10 years because of flooding. In 2007, it was closed temporarily for repairs after an inspection.
When the bridge is closed due to flooding, travelers face a detour of more than 60 miles.
