Pepin County: Storms cause major damage in Arkansaw area

Pepin County (Press Release) - Thursday night storms caused major problems for at least one area in western Wisconsin.

During the late evening hours on Thursday, August 13, the Arkansaw area received a large amount of rainfall in a short period of time.  As a result of the rainfall, major flooding occurred. Numerous roads were affected and had to be closed.

Bridge approaches were washed out, along with many areas of mud sliding.  Some homes in the Arkansaw area were evacuated.  Several homes in the Arkansaw area have been reported to have water damage and sanitary sewer back-up damage.

The American Red Cross has been notified to assist families in need of assistance.

The Pepin County Health Department has also been dispatched to address any health concerns.

The Pepin County Highway Department is working diligently on all of the roads affected.  There was also some washing damage in the City of Durand.

The Durand Fire Department also responded to many calls for assistance throughout the morning hours.

At this time, there have been no reported injuries and clean up is continuing.

News 18 does have a reporter in the area, and we will continue to update you with any new information that becomes available.
