Eau Claire (WQOW) - Investigators still don't know what caused the death of a state trooper from Polk County and they may never know.
The medical examiner has ruled the death of Jorge Dimas as undetermined. He passed away at an assisted living facility in Amery in June.
A month earlier, he was injured in a crash on Highway 35 near Frederic. Investigators say he pulled to the shoulder to turn around so he could make a traffic stop. But when he pulled back onto the highway, he collided with a pickup. The Polk County sheriff said Dimas was seriously injured in the crash, but by all accounts, was recuperating before he died.
A toxicology test was done, but it showed nothing. The sheriff says his office has closed their investigation and has turned over all of their reports to the state patrol.
Dimas was 23. He had been with the state patrol for about 10 months.
