
Eau Claire (Press Release from Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office ) - Deputies from the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office responded a report of an ATV crash with injury in rural Fall Creek, the Town of Ludington, on Sunday 10/11/2009 at approximately 5:32 PM.
It was reported to responding deputies that an ATV had struck a tree, and the female operator was injured. Deputies learned that the crash happened at the residence located at S1325 South 150th Avenue.
Rebecca L. Woodford, 20, of that address, was attempting to start a defective ATV by riding it down a hill in order to facilitate engaging the clutch to force start the machine. When the machine started, the throttle was and stayed in an open position, causing the machine to accelerate forward rapidly. Rebecca could not get the machine stopped, and struck a tree in the yard head-on.
She was ejected from the machine and the machine landed on top of her. Other family members removed the machine from atop of her and called 911.
Rebecca was transported by helicopter to Luther Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Eau Claire Sheriff's deputies were assisted at the scene by Fall Creek Police, Fall Creek Fire, and Eau Claire Fire Medic unit.
