Washburn County flu shots

Eau Claire (Press Release) - The Washburn County Medical Providers and Public Health hope to get enough H1N1 Influenza vaccine to begin vaccinating the target populations within the next three weeks.

Target populations are those groups that are at higher risk for serious complications of H1N1 Influenza, and include pregnant women, household contacts of infants under age 6 months, children and young adult's ages 6 months to 24 years, and adults 25-64 with chronic medical problems.

Vaccine has just started to be shipped to providers, but it will take a few weeks before supply catches up with demand. As soon as vaccine is available in sufficient quantities, School based clinics and community based clinics will be scheduled. Vaccine clinic information will be posted on the Washburn County Health Dept. website  http://www.co.washburn.wi.us/departments/health/ , as well as going out to local media and 211.

In the meantime, the only way to prevent the spread of H1N1 is to stay home if you have flu-like symptoms (24 hours after your fever is gone, without the use of fever-reducing medication), to wash your hands frequently, and cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze.
