Truck lands on roof in local river, driver dies

Posted:

Cadott (WQOW) - A truck plunges into a local river and ends up on its top. The driver died.

It happened Friday afternoon in Cadott. A witness says the truck went barreling through a field before it went down an embankment and into the Yellow River.

"He was right at the edge of the hayfield and then he just kept going and went off the embankment. He was in the water for about probably 20 minutes before I went across the field. All I could hear was his radio when I got down there and I kept hollering 'hello, anybody hear me?' I didn't know who it was, so the EMT went over and (the driver) was hanging upside down in there," says Alan Lund, a witness.

The driver was the only one inside the truck. Law enforcement says he was from Eau Claire and was 58 years old. His name has not been released.

Also, there's no word yet on how he died whether he had some kind of medical problem that caused the crash.
