Eau Claire (WQOW) - Peace activists come together for a local peace rally.
Saturday marks the 40th anniversary of the largest protest in history against the Vietnam War in the U.S. In honor of that protest, 14 area peace groups came together to hold a peace rally at Phoenix Park Saturday afternoon. The event was also held to bring attention to the cost of healthcare.
"We want to re-energize the peace movement. For the past 8 years, there's been a serious lack of concern with the conflicts going on in Afghanistan and Iraq, so we want to bring attention to it, and bring attention to the fact that we're spending billions overseas and we're not treating our own people here," says Eric Rosenquist, event organizer.
Around 50 people showed up to protest Saturday in Eau Claire.
There was also a similar rally held in Minneapolis. More than 40 of these rallies were scheduled throughout the U.S.
