Senator Feingold takes up effort to clean local lakes

Eau Claire (WQOW) - A Wisconsin lawmaker is on board with the effort to clean up local lakes.
Residents in Menomonie say blue-green algae has led to poor water and air quality around lakes Menomin and Tainter. They say the smell is so bad, it's making them sick. Senator Russ Feingold took a tour this year.

"Seeing it first hand really helps me understand the problem. I want to do more about this, so I'm co-sponsoring legislation that will research the problem and investigate exactly what we should do to address it," says Sen. Feingold.

In August, the state health department was at Lake Tainter to test the air quality there. A petition with more than 200 names on it has already been given to the Menomonie City Council and DNR demanding they take steps to clean up Lake Menomin. Chetek residents have also complained about similar problems on their chain of lakes.
