UW-Stout (WQOW) - Contrary to what your mother may have told you playing video games can take you somewhere in life, possibly into a profitable career.
UW-Stout introduced a new major this semester - video game development. Stout is the first school in the UW-System to do so. The university combined two of its strongest programs - art and computer programming - to create the major. Students study everything from what goes into designing video games to how they impact society.
"We have to keep up with what society is demanding for skills and so yes, I do think there are going to be more of these types of majors that are needed," says Diane Christie, the video game development program director.
The university says in Wisconsin and surrounding states more than 100 companies are looking to hire graduates with a degree in video game development. Right now, 40 freshmen are enrolled in the program at UW-Stout.
