UW-Stout, Menomonie (WQOW) - The new $43 million science wing at UW-Stout was supposed to offer students a number of new classrooms and labs. One thing not in the blueprints - a pool.
But that's what the Jarvis Hall Science wing got after the same valve malfunctioned twice last month. More than 13,000 gallons of water leaked. That led to about $100,000 in damage.
"It indicated on our computer system that it was closed. But it wasn't. It was closed a little bit, but not tightly. It's like seeing something in your car engine. You really can't see it. The chances of this happening were very, very rare. So, we're pretty confident it will never happen again," says Doug Mell, UW-Stout communications director.
No classes were cancelled beause of the leak. Some lab equipment suffered minor damage.
