UW- Eau Claire students may have to pay more for tuition

Posted:

Eau Claire (WQOW) - UW-Eau Claire students could be seeing an increase in tuition, but the Chancellor says it's for good reason.

The university is putting together a program to enhance the quality of a UW-Eau Claire degree. The tuition hike will be $1500 a year to be phased in over the next four years. The money would be used to help students graduate on time and decrease the faculty to student ratio. The chancellor says the program will not only benefit students now, but in the future as well.

"This is really about the quality of the educational experience, about the quality of the degree, the preparedness of our graduates for the 21st century, for the kinds of jobs that they've been hired into in the past and will continue to be hired into in the future," says Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich.

The program still needs to be approved by the Board of Regents and the student government, but the chancellor hopes to put it into place next year
