Chippewa County (WQOW) -- Preliminary autopsy results show a Chippewa County man died from exposure.

Russell Plummer’s body was found in the Chippewa County forest Tuesday afternoon.

He was last seen the night of November 2nd after leaving a tavern near Bloomer.  His car was found at the top of a hill in the woods.  His body was found down the hill.  The autopsy showed no internal trauma, but investigators say it's possible he had been knocked unconscious.

The coroner says Russell probably lived for a day or two in the woods before he passed away because of hypothermia.  The low temperature last Tuesday was 22 degrees.  It was 29 degrees the following day.

Toxicology reports in the case have not been completed. Russell, from Cornell, was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard and was 20 years old.

There’s no word yet on funeral arrangements.
