Wisconsin guard members return from Afghanistan

RHINELANDER, Wis. (AP) - Most of the members of a northern Wisconsin-based Army National Guard engineer company have returned to the United States after a dangerous mission in Afghanistan.

The 951st Engineer Company's mission included searching for improvised explosive devices and scouting terrain for supply routes.

The unit's Sgt. Ryan Adams died of injuries from a rocket-propelled grenade attack in Logar Province Oct. 2. Seven other Soldiers were injured in that attack. Logar Province is on the eastern border of Afghanistan, southeast of Kabul.

About 100 soldiers from the unit, based in Tomahawk and Rhinelander, have served nearly 10 months in Afghanistan. The rest of the unit is expected to return to the U.S. next week.

The 951st will report to Camp Shelby before returning to Wisconsin. A welcome home ceremony has not yet been scheduled.
