Dunn County steps up patrol at railroad crossing

Posted:

Dunn County (WQOW) - Law enforcement steps up patrols to make sure drivers aren't getting their signals crossed about railroad crossings.

On Wednesday, the Dunn County Sheriff's Department patrolled the railroad crossing at highway B just North of I-94.

The enforcement was part of the national campaign "Operation Lifesaver."

In 2008, there were 68 collisions between cars and trains in Wisconsin, the 13th highest in the country.

"Our whole thing is we want the public to be aware of the increase speed in the train and we want the public to be safe and follow the rules," said Dunn County Sheriff, Dennis Smith.

A ticket for failing to stop at a railroad crossing with lights is $270. It will also cost you six points on your driver's license.
