Eau Claire (WQOW) - People are giving back on Thanksgiving by giving the gift of life.
The American Red Cross held its annual Thanksgiving Day Blood Drive in Eau Claire. Festival Foods sweetened the deal by giving free pies to those who donated. The Red Cross says today's drive was important because the blood supply was in need of a boost. Donations usually drop this time of year because of the weather and holiday travel.
"Giving routinely does not impact your life at all, I mean every 56 days you can give," said blood donor John Staszcuk. "It's a great thing to do, to share what you can share."
Jayne Plumer, another blood donor, told WQOW, ""My father needed a lot of blood transfusions and that's what really got me motivated because I knew that he relied on other peoples blood so it's a way to give back."
If you were unable to attend Thursday's blood drive, but would like to donate blood you can call 1-800 GIVE LIFE.
