Polk County (WQOW) - A 16-year-old girl is killed in a one-vehicle crash Friday.
It happened on Highway 8 in the Deer Lake area, in the Town of Balsam Lake.
Deputies say Eric V. Johnsen, 17, of Waupun, was driving a Chevy Blazer on Highway 8 when he approached a vehicle stopped in traffic, waiting to make a turn. Johnsen swerved to avoid a collision with the stopped vehicle. He then lost control of the SUV, causing it to roll into a ditch.
Alora R. Breault, 16, of Dresser, was a passenger in the SUV and was thrown from the vehicle. She died at the scene. Johnsen was brought to the hospital with unknown injuries.
Another passenger, Michael Breault, 10, of Dresser, was also brought to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
