Wisconsinites have prime pick of trees

Associated Press - November 30, 2009 11:45 AM ET

MINDORO, Wis. (AP) - If you're looking for just the right Christmas tree, you should have plenty of choices in Wisconsin.

The state is home to 1,100 Christmas tree farms and sells more than 1 million trees each year, putting Wisconsin fifth in the nation in the number of trees harvested.

In La Crosse County, Tom Bina operates Bina Tree Farm near Mindoro. Bina says the first two weeks after Thanksgiving are always the busiest. Bina has been selling trees for 50 years and opens for business the day after Thanksgiving.

The Wisconsin Christmas Tree Producers Association says there are about 33,000 acres of Christmas trees in the state.
