Bill would limit access to CCAP

Eau Claire (WQOW)- Up to four million people check CCAP every day in Wisconsin. Under the bill, access would be limited to law enforcement, judges, attorneys, journalists and bill collectors. It would remove pending cases, as well as cases that have been dismissed.

"Given the world-wide availability and lasting effect of those CCAP entries, even though you were not convicted of a crime and you were presumed innocent of that offense, you still have that black mark on your reputation," commented Jackson County District Attorney Gerald Fox.

The Wisconsin Newspaper Association says the bill insults the people of our state. The group also says the legislation assumes the public cannot be trusted to see what the courts are doing.
