John Menard the target of attempted identity theft

Eau Claire (WQOW) - The richest man in Wisconsin is the target of an identity thief.  Someone tried to steal almost a half a million dollars from John Menard.

Police say someone called an Eau Claire bank in April and asked them to wire $475,000 of Menard's money to a bank account outside the country.  The person had account numbers, passwords and even Menard's social security number.  They also had John's home phone number and told the bank to call to verify.  Police say that person then intercepted that phone call to Menard's house.  At about the same time, the bank also called John's office, which contacted Menard who was on a plane at the time.

The bank was then told not to make the transfer.  Police have been investigating ever since and are still following up on leads.  No arrests have been made.
