Eau Claire (WQOW) - Health officials say H1N1 may be over, but not without lessons learned.
The Center for Disease Control recently announced the H1N1 flu pandemic is over. Cases of the flu still exist, but not enough to be considered a pandemic.
The director of the Eau Claire City-County Health Department says the H1N1 outbreak served as a good test if a similar outbreak ever happened again in the future. "I think we learned a lot from this 2009 h1n1 flu virus," said Richard Thoune. "We understood perhaps how to reach out to different sectors and age groups with in the community, how to perhaps deliver vaccine in ways we haven't done before, but overall I think we did a fairly good job getting a good proportion of the community vaccinated."
The Health Department says the H1N1 flu strain is likely to be included in this year's flu vaccine. The vaccine should be available starting in October.
