UPDATE: Suspect arrested in Eau Claire County faces serious charges in MN

Quyumba Wilson Quyumba Wilson

Eau Claire County (WQOW) – It was a wild scene along I-94 in Eau Claire County Wednesday, guns were drawn, there was a crash and a store was locked down.  It happened around noon.

Officers tried to pull over Quyumba Wilson in Eau Claire County on a Minnesota warrant.  He wouldn't pull over and led police on a short two-mile chase.  It ended when Wilson's car drove over stop sticks put out by law enforcement.  He crashed and fled into the woods behind Gander Mountain.

Officers drew their guns because they were concerned he was armed.  That's when Gander Mountain was locked down.

"We contacted the store because we were concerned about the access to the public area and the customers that may have been here," says Detective Lt. Jerry Staniszewski, Eau Claire Police Department.  "We had it secure so no one could leave or come in."

Minutes later, Wilson was spotted back on the interstate where he was arrested.  He was not armed.  Law enforcement says two things helped end the situation quickly, a county swat team was supposed to meet nearby at 1:00 pm, so they were ready to go.  Not only that, the State Patrol was able to follow Wilson from the skies.

"Our pilot did go up when the vehicle was identified, probably 10 minutes before the crash occurred so we did have an airplane in the air, which was very fortunate for us because the pilot was actually able to track the individual for quite a bit of the time," says Lt. Jeff Lorentz, Wisconsin State Patrol.

Wilson is in custody.  He's been charged with kidnapping and sexual assault in Minnesota.  He's from Mankato and is a student at Mankato State.

He's accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend in her dorm room on Sunday in Mankato.  The woman said Wilson tried to strangle her, punched her and held her against her will for more than an hour.

She also told police he changed her passwords to e-mail, Facebook and other accounts so he could access them.  The woman said Wilson stole her dorm room keys and threatened suicide before he left.
