Medford woman dies after being thrown from horse

Taylor Co. (Press Release) - On November, 28, 2010 at approximately 10:35 a.m., the Taylor County Sheriff's Department Dispatch Center received a 911 cellular telephone call requesting an ambulance.  The caller reported an ambulance was needed on Center Avenue near the intersection of Sunset Road in the Town of Medford, for a woman that had been thrown from her horse and was laying in the road apparently unconscious.

Emergency responders from the Taylor County Sheriff's Department, Medford Ambulance Service and MedEvac responded to the scene.  After arrival of local emergency services and initial assessments being completed, a request for response was made to the Aspirus Medivac Helicopter service, who ultimately responded to the area.

The rider of the horse, identified as Jill R. Kuenne, a 46-year-old Medford resident, was transported to Wausau Aspirus Hospital where she was ultimately pronounced deceased.

Investigation revealed that Kuenne had been riding her horse on Center Ave. when she met the operator of a motor vehicle.  The operator of the vehicle stopped and then was waved on by Kuenne.  The vehicle proceeded by the horse and rider at approximately 5 miles per hour.  The horse began to buck and Kuenne was ultimately thrown from the horse.

This is the second fatality reported in Taylor County during 2010 related to horse incidents.
