Menomonie (WQOW) - UW-Stout hopes a new exhibit will get people's attention about domestic abuse.
On Thursday, students put the finishing touches on a silent witness memorial. The memorial has life-size wooden figures representing victims of domestic abuse. That includes a baby killed by his father, a three-year-old killed by her mother and six women who were murdered by their boyfriends or husbands.
"Those people no longer have a voice. We are just trying to make their voices heard and we're trying to make sure that the community is aware that this still goes on. It's still a vital thing that we need to put a stop to," says Shawn Wilson, the project manager.
The memorial is part of a project for the class abuse and the family which is taught at UW-Stout. It will be on display at the Waterfront Bar and Grill in Menomonie.
A Hope for the Holidays concert will also be held there Thursday to raise money for Bridge to Hope, a shelter for domestic violence victims in Menomonie. A cover charge of $3 includes a raffle ticket and additional raffle tickets are $2 each.
