The Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District Board of Education announces that Thomas Hughes, Ph.D. is the finalist for the Superintendent of Schools position.  Contractual agreements are yet to be agreed upon.

Hughes is currently Superintendent of the Valders Area School District in Manitowoc County, a position he has held since 1999.  Prior to becoming superintendent, Hughes was special education director for three rural Manitowoc County school districts for three years and also has ten years of experience as a school psychologist. He completed his Ph.D. in Educational Administration in 2000 at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Hughes is no stranger to this part of the state having completed his Bachelor's Degree at Winona State University and his Master's Degree at U.W. Eau Claire.  His family is originally from the Winona area and his wife, who attended U.W. Stout, is originally from the St. Croix River Valley. Throughout his contact with the district, Hughes stated he and his wife have shared a desire to return to the Chippewa Valley where they originally met.

Hughes indicated his experiences with collaborative leadership and continuous instructional improvement were a close match with the focus of the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District.  The outstanding reputation the district has earned and the appeal of getting involved in the Chippewa Falls community were the two primary attractions Hughes cited when asked why he chose to pursue the leadership role in the district.
