See for Yourself: Elk Mound Schools Show Need for Improvements

Elk Mound (WQOW) - School district leaders in Elk Mound say they need millions in taxpayer dollars for improvements.

In two weeks, voters will decide if the district needs $9.32 million for school additions and to help meet infrastructure needs.

At the high school, small quarters in the cafeteria kitchen, leaky faucets, and tight classrooms are just some of the problems that officials say need to be fixed. That might not be easy because given the economy; even the superintendent knows a referendum is a tough sell.

Superintendent Ron Walsh says, "Times are especially tough right now and that's why people are really sitting back and taking extra attention with this referendum and making sure everything is the way it should be."

If the referendum passes, it will mean a tax increase of about $24 a year for a $100,000 piece of property.  That will last about three years, and then the rate will slowly decrease.
