Eau Claire (WQOW) -- Two weeks after making dozens of staff cuts, the Eau Claire School Board cuts again.
On Monday night the school board voted to eliminate six full-time equivalent teaching positions between both high schools, increase fees for extra-curricular activities, and reduce art time at the elementary level from 60 to 45 minutes per week.
The board also voted to eliminate one North High School and one Northstar Middle School bus route, and discontinue district-funded field trips for one year (that does not include grant funded trips).
Board members also voted to eliminate one assistant football coach from Eau Claire North, and Eau Claire Memorial.
Other decisions made Monday night: discontinue elementary art, music, and physical education coordinators. Discontinue special education physical education coordinator. Reduce library/media specialist time at elementary and middle schools. And discontinue unit leader increments at elementary schools and team leader increments at middle schools.
"The community knows these are in dire straits right now, and there aren't any other options we can take a look at. We're looking at program services right now as we have said unless we have some change in the way school is funded we will be at this point next year cutting even more programs and services," said Carol Craig School Board President, Monday night after the cuts were announced.
The board was looking to trim 2 million dollars from its budget.
