Eau Claire (WQOW) - The bells are out and the need is up in the Chippewa Valley.
The Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle campaign is underway. The organization hopes to raise $300,000 this year. That goal is $20,000 higher than last year's goal - one it failed to reach.
The organization hopes new fundraising efforts like a harvest bazaar this weekend will bring in more donations. The money raised will help provide food, shelter and toys to families this holiday season.
"There are times when people are coming in and they don't have a place to stay. Money is not that available and we really want to help people. If people are here and ringing the bell, people are more willing to give," says Captain RC Duskin of the Eau Claire Salvation Army.
The salvation army says it's still looking for volunteers. The harvest bazaar will be this Saturday at the former Salvation Army Thrift Store on Miller Street.
