Minneapolis (AP) -- A large fire that broke out on a retail block in south Minneapolis has destroyed several popular businesses and left 2 firefighters with minor injuries.

WCCO-TV reports it started as a grease fire Thursday afternoon in the kitchen of Heidi's, 1 of 5 establishments in the building. Also badly damaged are the Blackbird Cafe, Patina, Shoppe Local and Stacy Johnson Jewelry Design.

Officials say 1 firefighter was cut with glass and another was hit by debris. Neither of the injuries are serious.

No employees in any of the businesses are reported injured.

Just hours before the fire, the James Beard Foundation named Heidi's co-owner Stewart Woodman 1 of 20 semifinalists for best Midwestern chef of 2010. It's the food world's most prestigious awards.
