Scott Hams, April Englund and Amanda Rief died of smoke inhalation during a fire in their off-campus duplex in April.
The smoke detectors woke up the neighbors, but the three students never made it out. Toxicology results show that Rief's blood alcohol level was .31, Englund's was .21 and Hams had a blood alcohol level of .17. The legal blood alcohol limit is .08.
Dunn County Chief Medical Examiner Chris Kruse says he can only speculate whether their blood alcohol levels prevented the students from being able to get out.
Investigators say the fire started in a love seat in the living room. They found used cigarettes in the room but are unsure if those cigarettes started the fire.
