Dunn County (WQOW) - It's a long walk from Green Bay to Minneapolis but about a dozen people are making the trek. They came through the Chippewa Valley today with a message.
They are political activitsts making what they call the "great american walk for freedom." They're promoting constitutional freedoms. They feel the federal government has shied away from the vision our founding fathers had. For example they say the federal reserve has too much power and say legislation like the Patriot Act violates the right to privacy.
"Our main focus is to raise awareness to our eroding constitutional freedoms. We feel the federal government is overstepping its bounds and treating the constitution like a suggestion book not like a legal contract," says Michael Maresco, participant in the Walk for Freedom.
They claim they're not out to promote any particular candidate or party. They say they just want to spark a discussion about constitutional freedoms.
They're stopping in Woodville Wednesday night for a town hall meeting at the American Legion. It begins at 6 p.m. On Thursday night, they'll be at the village hall in Roberts. They'll reach the Twin Cities by Tuesday which is the second night of the Republican National Convention.
