House Fire in Jackson County

BLACK RIVER FALLS FIRE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE:

At 3:17 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2008 the Black River Falls Fire Department was paged and responded to a structure fire at 505 East Second (Hwy 12 S.) in the town of Brockway, Jackson County. The fire was reported to the Jackson County Emergency Dispatch Center by a passing motorist.

Upon arrival of the department the single family, single story wood / log frame structure had heavy fire involvement. A defensive attack (exterior attack) was made with two master streams and class A foam for initial fire knock down. Once the fire was knocked down smaller 1.75" lines were used to extinguish the fire. The structure appears to be a total loss.

The renter / occupant Phillip Heimlich was not home at the time of the fire and did not have renters insurance on his property. Heimlich is being assisted by the Red Cross.

There were three dogs confirmed to have perished in the fire and a fourth can not be accounted for at this time.

The owner of the property is Mike Conner of Black River Falls. Conner does have insurance on the structure.

The department was on the scene with 14 fire fighters and five units for three hour. There were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time with the department, Brockway Police Department and the Wisconsin Fire Marshall's Office.

The department was assisted at the scene by Black River Emergency Medical Service, Brockway Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff's Department, American Red Cross, and the Jackson County Highway Department.
