MADISON (WKOW) -- More cash-strapped consumers are splitting their medicine tablets at home to save money, according to a study reported by the consumer news service ConsumerAffairs.com.

The American Pharmacist Assoc. released a survey suggesting people taking medication are looking for risky ways to make their doses last longer to avoid buying upgrades.

Some people buy tablets twice the prescribed dosage, and split the tablet in two. The article warns this is dangerous, since medicines often contain coding that can be disruped.
