Eau Claire (WQOW) - As the weeks draw closer to hunting season, classes to train new hunters are filling up in the Chippewa Valley.
In Chippewa County, as of Tuesday afternoon, there are just a few spots left in the remaining hunter safety courses. In Eau Claire County, there are no seats in the classes that have been scheduled.
The DNR says classes normally fill up around this time because instructors want to hunt.
To add more classes, the department says it'd need more volunteers to become instructors.
"One person cannot really do a class by themselves. It takes a group," says Dave Rasmussen, volunteer DNR safety instructor. "The more instructors allows for better quality classes and potentially more classes."
The DNR office in Eau Claire says more classes could still be added this season. It recommends checking the department's Web site often for updates.
