Unemployment rates improved in most Wisconsin cities and counties in August.
The state Department of Workforce Development reported that 29 of 31 cities with at least 25,000 people saw declines in their jobless rates. All but four of the state's 72 counties saw a drop in unemployment.
The statewide rate for August was 7.9 percent.
Racine had the highest rate for any Wisconsin city at 13 percent followed by Beloit at 12.8 percent and Milwaukee at 11.2 percent.
Caledonia had the lowest at 3.8 percent followed by Madison at 5.3 percent.
Menominee County had the highest unemployment rate at 21.9 percent while Dane County had the lowest at 5.1 percent.
