Chippewa County (WQOW) - The first of what could be many lawsuits has been filed in connection with a deadly boat crash in Chippewa County.
Four men died when two boats collided on the Chippewa River in July. Among the victims was Matt Overhulser. He was a member of a wedding party on one of the boats. Now, Overhulser's widow is suing the owner of the other boat. The wrongful death suit alleges that Jack Link's Auto and RV Supercenter was negligent for the actions of its employee. Mark Michels, who was driving the boat owned by Link's, died in the crash. Taira Overhulser is suing for the death of her spouse, the loss of his companionship, and for her emotional distress.
Meanwhile, the DNR is finishing up reports on its investigation into the crash. Those reports are expected to be sent to the Chippewa County DA in about a week, for a decision on whether any charges will be filed.
