Flooding forces HTI to suspend work in Thailand

Eau Claire (WQOW) - A big local employer has suspended operations in another country.

Thailand is seeing its worst flooding in decades.  Since tropical storms first hit in late July, 269 people have died.  HTI has a plant in Thailand.  It's in an industrial park where the floodwaters are rising.  HTI says its plant has not sustained any water damage, but that industrial park is without power and an evacuation has been ordered.

"Many of our employees have been personally affected by the flooding in Thailand, and our heartfelt sympathy goes out to them," says HTI CEO Wayne Fortun.

HTI says, until work resumes in Thailand, production will be increased at its U.S. facilities, including in Eau Claire.  The company says it will likely add some temporary jobs in Eau Claire.
