St. Croix County (WQOW) - A western Wisconsin lawmaker introduces a new proposal for floating toilets on a popular river.
State Senator Sheila Harsdorf says people boating on the St. Croix River are using an island, for their own restroom. She calls it a severe problem, a very serious health issue, and not very tourist friendly.
At the request of the DNR, Harsdorf has authored legislation to allow placement of a floating toilet. The bill would create an exemption to permit requirements, and allow the National Park Service to place a pier with floating toilets along the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway.
Harsdorf hopes the bill passes the legislature in time for the toilets to be installed next spring.
