Eau Claire (WQOW) - As the campaign season ramps up, a Senate candidate makes a stop in the Chippewa Valley.
On Thursday, Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin was in Eau Claire to tour the NanoRite Center at CVTC. Baldwin, a Democrat from southern Wisconsin, is running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Senator Herb Kohl. Baldwin says the NanoRite Center is a good example of partnerships between public, private and educational stakeholders to create jobs.
"That's what we're great at in the United States and in Wisconsin in particular is invention and commercializing those inventions," says Tammy Baldwin, (D) Senate Candidate. "And then we have to have the sound infrastructure to get our products to market and in Wisconsin we're very reliant on that. These have been neglected investments and at the same time we know have to balance our budgets, have to be responsible, there are a lot of other areas for cutting, but we don't want to ignore those investments in our people and our competitive future."
Baldwin says she would also like to see lawmakers do more to protect the middle class.
"Working families, middle class families have really lost ground," says Baldwin. "It's probably the first generation that aren't sure whether their children are going to do better than they did, that's a problem because that's what this country is built on, the American dream and we have to get back down to basics."
Baldwin is the only democrat in the race so far. She's joined by several republicans including former Governor Tommy Thompson, former Congressman Mark Neumann and current Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald.
