126th annual ski jumping competition still on

Eau Claire (WQOW)- The Silver Mine Ski Jumping Competition is approaching, and despite the lack of snow, organizers say the event will go on.

Plans are still on to host the annual tournament January 20th and 21st in Eau Claire.  Workers at the location were making snow this morning for the landing spot at the bottom of the jumping hill.  Organizers say they can still hold the competition without snow, but cold temperatures are important.

"We've been a little bit weather-challenged this year but we have a majority of the snow that has already been made on the hill.  All we need is to get a little bit of weather on our side and that doesn't mean we need to have snow," says event organizer Dan Mattoon.  We just need to have some cooler weather, cold nights.  We get down to some 10 degree nights; we can make a lot of snow in a real short order and should be able to get that hill in tip-top shape really quick."

A pond hockey tournament will also be added to the event list.  As of right now, all the events are scheduled to go on as planned.
