Gambling debt up dramatically in Wis.

Wisconsin (WQOW) - Gambling debt is up dramatically, according to compulsive gamblers who called the state hotline for help.

The Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling says the average gambling debt among state residents last year was $157,000. That's according to callers who were willing to reveal their debt. The amount is triple that of the year before.

The council's executive director says one man had $2 million in gambling debt. She says the increase may be due to the economy, with desperate people trying to make extra money. She also says some gambling addicts reported having as many as 28 credit cards, and third and fourth mortgages on their homes.
