Hammond (WQOW)- A local library played host to a new tradition today.

The Hammond Library held their first ever "Take Your Child to the Library Day". Kids of all ages enjoyed a day full of stories, crafts, games, movies and scavenger hunts at the Hammond Public Library.  The library says although 12 other states also celebrate the day, they are the first to celebrate in Wisconsin. The library's director says she heard about the idea from another library that started the tradition.

"It started out in Waterford, Connecticut by a librarian named Nadine Lipman.  I saw it on a blog site and said hey, what a great idea," says Hammond Library Director Michelle Johnson.  "I called Leah (Hammond Library Board President) up and said do you think we can pull it off in 30 days and we did."

The event lasted from 9 a.m. 4 p.m.  The library says the event was a success and plans to continue the tradition next year.
