Menomonie (WQOW) - An area university could test out an
eBook program next year.
The U.S. Secretary of Education has
asked all schools to convert to an eBooks system within the next five
years. Currently, UW-Stout students rent
textbooks from the university for their classes. The university has formed a
committee to look into converting from print textbooks, to eBooks. The
university is hoping those books would be available on several devices, like iPads,
mobile phones and computers.
"What we're looking
at is a small number of courses converting from print to text on a voluntary
basis by the instructors to teach those courses with those materialism and then
evaluating the results, how they're received by the faculty and by the students,
and then expanding or modifying the program based on our results," says Bob Butterfield, Director of UW-Stout Instructional Services.
UW-Stout
hopes to have the test program ready to go by this fall.
