UPDATE: Man airlifted to hospital after Chippewa County crash

Chippewa County (Press Release) - On Friday, around 5:00 a.m. the Village of Lake Hallie Police and the Chippewa Fire District responded to a two vehicle accident on STH-124, in the Village of Lake Hallie.

Information available indicates that a passenger car (2005 Hyundai 4dr) struck the side of the semi trailer. The semi tractor trailer was attempting a turning maneuver when the accident occurred. The passenger car was heading southbound from the direction of the City of Chippewa Falls. The semi-trailer was originally heading north bound just prior to the turning maneuver.

The semi tractor trailer operator indicated that he was traveling north bound when he realized that he was heading in the wrong direction. The operator of the semi-tractor trailer then attempted to make a u-turn at a location on STH-124 that did not prohibit turning maneuvers. It was during this turning maneuver that the passenger car struck the semi-tractor trailer in the middle of the trailer portion of the unit.

The operator of the semi-tractor trailer was a 45 year old male from Ingalls IN. The operator of the semi was not injured. The operator and the passenger in the car were both injured, and the driver was reported to be in serious condition. The passenger car occupants are an elderly couple from the Cadott area.

Further information is not being released at this time due to the nature of the injuries and the notification of family members. The Wisconsin State Patrol was requested to assist the Lake Hallie Police with an accident reconstruction. It does not appear that alcohol was a factor in the accident but any test results are not yet known. The State Patrol reconstruction investigation will assist in determining if speed was a factor. The matter is still under investigation and no charges have been filed pending further investigation.
