Area man found not guilty in murder trial

Dunn County (WQOW) - A jury reaches a verdict in an area murder trial.

A Dunn County jury Thursday afternoon found Jess Carsello not guilty in the death of Michael Elliot. Investigators said the two men were drinking heavily at Carsello's home in Washburn County in June of 2010. An autopsy showed Elliot was shot six times in the back, but Carsello maintained he shot Elliot in self-defense.

The jury deliberated for nearly 12 hours before reaching the verdict.

The jury informed the judge Thursday morning they were deadlocked, with one juror holding out to convict Carsello, and the other 11 favoring a not guilty verdict. Several hours later, the jury returned a unanimous verdict acquitting Carsello.
