Barron County (WQOW) - A proposal to study the positive and negative economic impacts of frac sand mining in the region, appears to be going nowhere.
Chippewa County asked Barron and Eau Claire Counties to join it in paying for the study. But Monday night the Barron County Board voted to table the proposal indefinitely, which effectively kills the idea in that county. Eau Claire County officials have decided not to even take a vote on it.
The study would have examined things like the economic impact on tourism, agriculture and transportation, and increased revenue from sales taxes, property taxes and jobs.
