Eau Claire (WQOW)- A local organization helping girls build self-esteem and self respect is off and running.
The Eau Claire County Girls on the Run organization has started its spring after-school program. The ten week program for girls in third through fifth grade, teaches the importance of self-respect and prepares them to make healthy life-long decisions.
The after school sessions are led by trained coaches who inspire girls to be healthy and confident using an experience-base curriculum which integrates running.
The Eau Claire County Girls on the Run impact more than 140 girls at several local schools including Fall Creek, Locust Lane, Altoona and Meadowview.
At the end of the program the girls run a 5K along with the community on May 12. The 5k takes place at Owen Park in Eau Claire and the money raised from the 5K goes toward the program and scholarships to girls from low-income families.
