Kyle Green announces his resignation
UWEC AD Scott Kilgallon is again searching for a new men's basketball coachEau Claire (WQOW) -- After one season at UW-Eau Claire, Kyle Green resigns as Blugolds men's basketball coach.
Green was introduced as the ninth coach in the program's history on May 20th, 2011. Less than one year later, UWEC holds another news conference to announce Green's resignation.
Green coached UW-Eau Claire to a 15-10 overall record this past season; the Blugolds were 7-9 in the WIAC, just missing out on a berth in the conference tournament.
Green's resignation is effective on April 16. Green cites family reasons for his resignation, as he and his family plan to move back to Iowa.
"It's something we thought a lot about the last month," Green says, "and it's always tough to make transitions and move your family. One place we've lived, really as I've gone through my career, I've only spent quality time in one place. There is only one spot that we've had the chance to establish roots and call home and that's Iowa."
"You get into it [coaching] for having significance in the lives of people," says Green, "my wife's a chriopractor, that's why she got into her profession, her role and what she does is equally significant in our lives as what I do, so we came to the conclusion, where could we have that whole thing, where could we best do that as a family, .fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at that, we decided that Iowa's the place to do that."
Last year's search for a new men's basketball coach at UWEC attracted more than one hundred applicants. Athletic Director Scott Kilgallon says even with several other Division III jobs open within the state, including UW-Oshosh, Ripon, & Northland, he expects interest will be high in the Blugolds program.
"I think that there are just so many quality people out there," says Kilgallon, "both Oshkosh and UW-Eau Claire will both wind up with an excellent coach."
Kilgallon says ideally, UWEC will have a new men's basketball coach hired within six weeks.
