Eau Claire County (WQOW) - There may be more interest in Eau Claire County's sand.
Hi-Crush and High Country Sands are two companies that want to mine sand in the towns of Bridge Creek and Otter Creek, respectively. Their interest has been well publicized.
The county says it's also been asked about some land west of Highway 27 in the Town of Bridge Creek. The land borders the Eau Claire River and is owned by Plum Creek Timberlands. The county says it assumes that site would be used for frac sand mining, but it hasn't received any new applications yet. It says the DOT has received a highway access inquiry from an engineering company that says it's preparing a nonmetallic mining reclamation plan for the site.
The county's sand mining moratorium runs through the end of May.
